ASTM A182 F316 Weld Neck Flange

The ASME B16.5 Weld Neck Flange is a welding-type flange cast or forged integrally with the tapered neck. It is then buttwelded to the piping system. The ASTM A182 SS WNRF Flange is made of austenitic steel consisting of 18% chromium and 8% nickel, and it is this composition that makes the flange strong and highly resistive to corrosion.

The ASTM A182 F316 Weld Neck Flange is a welding-type flange cast or forged integrally with the tapered neck. It is then buttwelded to the piping system. The ASTM A182 SS WNRF Flange is made of austenitic steel consisting of 18% chromium and 8% nickel, and it is this composition that makes the flange strong and highly resistive to corrosion.

The butt welding connection of stainless steel butt welding flange is to place the end of the flange opposite to the end of the pipe, heat their contact parts to a plastic state, and then apply pressure to connect them together. During the welding process, the weldment is heated by the resistance heat generated by the current passing through the weldment.
ASTM A182 is a standard developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), which covers the specifications of a variety of forged or rolled alloy steel and stainless steel pipe flanges, forged pipe fittings, valves and parts for high temperature use. This standard ensures the consistency and reliability of butt welding flanges in terms of material properties, manufacturing processes, dimensional accuracy, etc.

316 vs 316L Stainless Steel: What’s the Difference?

316 and 316L stainless steel are both marine-grade steels, but they do possess some key differences. 316L has a lower proportion of carbon in its composition. To qualify as 316L stainless steel, the amount of carbon cannot exceed 0.03%. This decreases the risk of carbon precipitation, making it a better option for welding to ensure maximum corrosion resistance.

316 stainless steel has very low responsiveness to magnetic fields. Unlike basic stainless steels, which are ferromagnetic, most stainless steel varieties are austenitic — or effectively nonmagnetic.

However, some 316 stainless steel goods can undergo processes, like cold forming and welding, where the austenitic crystal structure is transformed into ferromagnetic martensite. 316L steel is more susceptible to gaining some degree of magnetism.
